In 2010, a diver by the name of Ben McDaniel was last seen diving at Vortex Spring in Ponce de Leon, Florida. Someone noticed his truck was parked in the lot, but no one had seen Ben in two days. Far inside a dark underwater cave someone placed a grate to keep divers out of the reaches beyond. But the grate doesn’t keep everyone out.
Joey Simmons had only recently gotten scuba certified. But he was already doing dives far more advanced than his skill level – cave diving, decompression diving, deep diving in the Gulf of Mexico in the middle of the night. Part of this was out of his own carelessness. Part of it was because he was being manipulated.
Read what happens when Joey makes an unexpected discovery and naively tells someone he thinks he can trust, only to find himself in a position where he is forced to lie to his parents, lie to the police, and lie to the woman he has fallen in love with. All while also having to protect her from the same evil man that is controlling Joey.

Joey Simmons doesn’t always make the best decision, even after getting certified as a cave diver. He’s found himself in another situation, this time more than 2000 feet from the cave opening, and it almost cost him his life. He was able to get himself out of it. Only this time, someone else took credit for rescuing Joey. Not only that, but this person exaggerated the details of the rescue and made Joey look bad, very bad. Now Joey needs to figure out a way to redeem himself and repair his reputation.
Joey enlists the help of his girlfriend, Lindsey Carter, as well as two new friends, and they try to figure out what to do. But the situation gets worse and Lindsey gets caught in the middle.

Couldn’t put it down. Rob’s previous book, Beyond the Grate, was really good, but a bit improbable in parts. This book, Into the Darkness, really nails Florida cave diving and gets all the details right. You feel like you are actually there. I am already looking forward to the next book.
While I realize that the stories are fictional, the basis for many of them and the technical nature of the diving are page turners!
There’s something fun about rooting for the underdog and Joey plays the part well. I love Lindsey as the better diver, but seeing her pulled in again and the resulting passionate person emerge is a reminder that she’s as much a main character as Joey. This is particularly aided with the authors use of her perspective throughout the book—so cool!!!
One of few books I’ve read had to read that “spoiler” skip ahead, go back and finish. I couldn’t handle the suspence, irritation! I can’t believe a cave diving story could do that..keep writing dude.
I’m honored to read this book…It was so damn good I had to read ahead, which I never do!
Beyond Hope
What do you do when you become separated from your dive buddy during a cave dive? How long do you look for your dive buddy? How far do you push your breathing air reserves before deciding you need to save yourself and exit the cave?
Beyond Hope goes in a completely different direction from Rob Neto’s previous two books. The entire story takes place underwater during a cave dive.Joey and Lindsey take their first trip to Mexico to see what the underwater caves there have to offer. One of the cave dives they do proves to be challenging, very challenging. It also pushes Joey and Lindsey to their limits while testing their faith and having them question some of their life choices.
Will Joey and Lindsey survive this dive? Or are they Beyond Hope?
